Escher drawing

Escher's drawings create confusion in the viewer's mind because they play with the automatic interpretations the brain makes of what the eyes see. The brain interprets perspective in a two dimensional image but in this drawing the perspective created by the top part of the building contradicts the perspective created by the bottom part of the building.
